Product innovation
Chapman Constructions took out three top prizes at the ceremony - the Green Smart Product/Service of the Year award, the Industry Innovation award and the award for the most innovative use of steel - for their system that addresses both environmental performance and affordability.

The system is comprised of Colorbond steel, powder-coated aluminium and glass, all used to create a low maintenance building. Build time is extremely fast, with the use of prefabricated composite panels for floors, walls and roof helping to achieve lock-up in just two weeks. Bluescope Colorbond steel then finishes the job inside and out, and the top layer of flooring can be either timber or concrete.

Judges commented that the system was cost effective, easy to assemble and low maintenance.

"It provides high thermal performance, low environmental impact and high quality architecture for a price similar to a very basic home," Judges said.

All materials are delivered to the site cut-to-length and any left over material is predominantly steel, which can be recycled.

The construction system is showcased in the 'Alpine Habitats' resort, located between Jindabyne and Thredbo. Each of the resort's cabins has been designed to maximise solar access, minimise environmental impact and spoil the occupant with luxurious fittings. Upon entering the cabin the sun's rays can be felt warming the polished concrete floors. There is something so pure about the sunlight in snow country - it is almost blinding through the massive glass doors leading to the outdoor deck. The bathroom, while minimal in size, accommodates all of the occupants' needs and more, with generous vanity, heated towel rail and ample natural light.

An Ecosmart fire, leather lounge, luxurious rug and glass top dining table set a modern yet cosy feel. The decor is Soho apartment meets ski lodge, with a landscape window that frames the alpine vista perfectly - a nice architectural detail often missing in cabin style accommodation.

Cleverly placed heated towel rails in laundry cupboards, under floor heating and worm farm based septic systems all contribute to making this a holiday destination that will leave any who visits feeling refreshed and at one with the Earth.
